Henry Dearborn (1751-1829), physician, soldier. Served with distinction in the Revolution, eventually joining Washington’s staff. Represented the District of Maine in Congress, 1793-97, and served as Secretary of War 1801-09. His performance in the war of 1812 was disappointing and he was removed from duty in July 1813.In 1822 Monroe sent him as minister to Portugal, a post which he held two years. He later served as president of this company, “The Republican Institution of the Town of Bos
