James Madison, Jr. (March 16, 1751– June 28, 1836) is the “Father of the Constitution,” author of the Bill of Rights, and the fourth president of the United States. He has been called the chief architect of the most important political experiment in human history. George F. Will once wrote that if we truly believed that the pen is mightier than the sword, our nation’s capital would have been called “Madison, D.C.”, instead of Washington, D.C.

Madison also wrote over a third of the Federalist Papers, a series of 85 newspaper articles published throughout the 13 states that explained to the public how the proposed Constitution would work.

Thomas Jefferson referred to the Federalist Papers as “the best commentary on the principles of government, which ever was written.”  The Federalist Papers are still the primary source today for jurists and legal scholars interested in the original understanding of the Constitution.

James Madison signs this Military Commission appointing Edward Webber a Second Lieutenant in the 6th Regiment of the Infantry. Measures 15 3/4" x 18 1/2".

Collectible Bahamian Currency

The Bahamas' unit of currency is the Bahamian dollar ($B) which is based on the U.S. dollar. One Bahamian dollar equals 100 Bahamian cents (pennies). As the Bahamian and U.S. dollars are equivalent (1 $B = 1 $US), residents or visitors may spend either Bahamian or U.S. dollars in the Bahamas, though outside the Bahamas, Bahamian money is not too valuable (trading at times at nearly half its face value), except as a popular collector item, so make sure to get rid of all your Bahamian dollars before you leave.
