Banque D'Orient Societe Anonyme - Part 2

Collectible, scarce, Banque D'Orient Societe Anonyme stock

The refugees from Ionia, Cappadocia, the Caucasus, who eventually called for liquidation of the shares held by bank employees heard, especially after 1940 to respond to how the bills had no longer any value. The matter was forgotten. Some grandmothers and grandfathers some from Asia Minor had kept some of those shares in the chests. Others in the lockers until, forty of them appeared suddenly. The holder of the stock is a family from Patras.

The family took the shares to the National bank of Greece and the bank informs them in September 2010, that the shares hold no value. But, the family didsn't give up. They contacted experts on banking issues and legal and economic factors.

Theodore Karyotis, professor of economics at the University of Maryland in the U.S., teaches Macroeconomics, International Economic Relations and microeconomics. He evaluated of shares and determined that each share of gold "Bank of East" was now valued at 670 billion, one-and-a-half the current debt of Greece, which amounts to 450 billion. The total value of 40 shares approaching 30 trillion euros.

The family decided to establish a non-profit organization.

They donated 4 shares to the state. The value of the 4 shares is sufficient to pay the debt of Greece and the accumulated debt to banks for the Greek citizens and the existence of a large reserve for economic growth (at least this is what the family wants).

"Up to now there is no official response to this by the government or any politician and all the major Greek news sites and channels haven't reported this yet."

(Response provided by a fellow expert in the field.

Collecting Stocks and Bonds As Art

Engraved printing of stocks and bonds by American Banknote, Franklin Lee Banknote, International Banknote, etc., are considered serious art. They decorate dens, offices, boardrooms, and corporate headquarter buildings.

This Standard Oil Trust stock signed by John D. Archbold and W.H. Tilford, and issued to and signed by W.C. Whitney. Archbold and Tilford were very important officers in the Standard Oil Trust.

W.C. Whitney was the most important of the great Whitney Family.

Imperial Chinese Government Bond

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and to my eye these Hukuang Railways bonds are among the most attractive pieces ever to bear stamps.

£100 5% Hukuang Railways Sinking Fund Gold Loan of 1911 Bond. Uncancelled. Several coupons. It is important to stress that these bonds have been bought in recent years and pretty much taken off the collector market. As a result prices have risen rather dramatically. Several more rows of coupons not shown.

Imperial Chinese Government Hukuang Railways bonds are well-nigh ubiquitous in the marketplace. They were issued in 1911 by a consortium of banks in London, Berlin, Paris and New York, with serial numbers running into the six digits, of which hundreds if not thousands appear to have survived.

A few bear New York State adhesive revenue stamps; shown here is a New York issue £100 bond with Secured Debt $1 and Investments $1 stamps paying New York’s Investments tax in 1917 and 1918; this secured for the bondholder exemption from that state’s onerous personal property tax. Coupon bonds of this era are generally large and spectacular—American bonds typically measure about 10 by 15 inches—but this one sets new standards on both scores.

It is huge, some 16 by 22 inches as shown. Its design and execution by security printers Waterlow & Sons of London are equally impressive, featuring the facsimile seals and signatures of China’s Minister of Posts and Communications and its Minister in Washington. Alongside is the countersignature of a representative of the New York banks J. P. Morgan & Co., Kuhn Loeb & Co., the First National Bank of the City of New York, and the National City Bank of New York.

Year: 1911
Excellent Condition.

Collectible Francis Hopkinson Autographed Bill of Exchange

Francis Hopkinson signed Bill of Exchange. Francis Hopkinson, signer of the Declaration of Independence, signs this bill of exchange as Treasurer of Loans. Francis Hopkinson (September 21, 1737 – May 9, 1791), an American author, was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence as a delegate from New Jersey. He later served as a federal judge in Pennsylvania. His supporters believe he played a key role in the design of the first American flag.

Francis Hopkinson was born at Philadelphia in 1737, the son of Thomas Hopkinson and Mary Johnson. He became a member of the first class at the College of Philadelphia (now University of Pennsylvania) in 1751 and graduated in 1757, receiving his masters degree in 1760, and a doctor in law (honorary) in 1790. He was secretary to a Provincial Council of Pennsylvania Indian commission in 1761 that made a treaty with the Delaware and several Iroquois tribes. In 1763, he was appointed customs collector for Salem, New Jersey. Hopkinson spent from May 1766 to August 1767 in England in hopes of becoming commissioner of customs for North America.

Although unsuccessful, he spent time with the future Prime Minister Lord North and his half-brother, the Bishop of Worcester Brownlow North, and painter Benjamin West. After his return, Francis Hopkinson operated a dry goods business in Philadelphia and married Ann Borden on September 1, 1768. They would have five children. Hopkinson obtained a public appointment as a customs collector for New Castle, Delaware on May 1, 1772. He moved to Bordentown, New Jersey in 1774, became an assemblyman for the state's Royal Provincial Council, and was admitted to the New Jersey bar on May 8, 1775. He resigned his crown-appointed positions in 1776 and, on June 22, went on to represent New Jersey in the Second Continental Congress where he signed the Declaration of Independence. He departed the Congress on November 30, 1776 to serve on the Navy Board at Philadelphia. As part of the fledgling nation's government, he was treasurer of the Continental Loan Office in 1778; appointed judge of the Admiralty Court of Pennsylvania in 1779 and reappointed in 1780 and 1787; and helped ratify the Constitution during the constitutional convention in 1787.

On September 24, 1789, he was nominated by President George Washington to the newly created position of judge of the United States District Court for the District of Pennsylvania. He was confirmed by the United States Senate, and received his commission, on September 26, 1789. As a federal judge, Hopkinson died in Philadelphia at the age of 53 from a sudden epileptic seizure. He was buried in Christ Church Burial Ground in Philadelphia. He was the father of Joseph Hopkinson, member of the United States House of Representatives and Federal judge.

Texas - Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna Autographed Bonds

Antonio de Padua María Severino López de Santa Anna y Pérez de Lebrón (21 February 1794 – 21 June 1876),[1] often known as Santa Anna[2] or López de Santa Anna, was a Mexican political leader, general and President who greatly influenced early Mexican and Spanish politics and government. He first fought against the independence from Spain, and then supported it. He rose to the ranks of general and president at various times over a turbulent 40-year career. He was President of Mexico on seven non-consecutive occasions over a period of 22 years.

Santa Anna boldly signs this extremely graphic bond. It is without doubt the most impressive and ornate of all autographed stock or bonds. This $500 bond was issued in 1866 from New York City while Santa Anna was living in exile. While he schemed to depose Emperor Maximilian, he issued these bonds in hopes of regaining power. In these attempts, he was captured and sentenced to death. Still, he was released and allowed to retire to New York and later when blind, he died in poverty and neglect. Of course, we remember him because of his success over the Texans at the Alamo and later his defeat and capture by Sam Houston at San Jacinto in 1836. Found in an old leather container in Texas, this Santa Anna signed American bond is fully issued, uncancelled, has no folds, has full margins and is in Superb condition.
