Hydraulic Press Brick Company Stock

St. Louis, Missouri stock. Vignette of early hydraulic press!

Year: 1887.
Condition: Excellent.

The founder of the company, E. C. Sterling, developed the concept of molding dry clay with a hydraulic press. Sterling overcame many obstacles as earlier attempts to utilize a dry clay manufacturing technique in the East had proven unsuccessful. He established his first operation in Memphis. In 1864, after the disruption of the Civil War, he relocated to St. Louis.

Henry Ware Eliot was the Secretary of the Hydraulic Press Brick Company and father to T. S. Eliot, later serving in all offices including President, until his retirement at age 70.

The Crisp Gold Loan* of 1912 (which has been in default since March 1939) was originally for the sum of £10,000,000 but only £5,000,000 was issued. The annual revenues of the Salt Gabelle were estimated at 47,510,000 Kuping Taels (a Kuping Tael was 98% pure silver and weighed 37.313 grams) of which 24,000,000 Taels per annum had already been pledged by law to be spent in a particular way. Collectible US Steel Corporation Stock

Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919), Manufacturer and Philanthropist. Began an illustrious career as a bobbin boy at age 13, then became a self taught telegrapher with the Pennsylvania Railroad. In 1853-65, he introduced use of the Pullman sleeping cars, organized the military telegraph department, and was active in transporting troops during the Civil War. After leaving the railroad, he focused on iron and then the steel industry.

His policy of “putting all his eggs in one basket, and then watching the basket” was extremely successful.

By 1889 steel production in the U.S. was first in the world, and in 1901 he sold his company, Carnegie Company to the U.S. Steel Corporation for $250 million. The Carnegie Foundation of New York donated millions to scientific research, the advancement of teaching, the furthering of international peace, and the reward of heroic acts. The foundation is well known for building public libraries. This historic bond is dated 1901, the very year that he sold his company. This beautiful $100,000 5% United States Steel Gold Bond is issued to Andrew Carnegie, but not signed. The rarity of Carnegie stocks and bonds is well known. A while back, two signed examples of this bond were sold to collectors at $125,000 per bond! Neatly stamp and hole cancelled. The graphics and cranberry red color are truly exceptional. Fresh Excellent Condition. A portrait of Carnegie is included. If we

had to pick the top 10 U. S. stocks or bonds of all time, this would be one of our top choices!

Collectible World War II War Bond

War bonds are debt securities issued by a government for the purpose of financing military operations during times of war.

During WW II, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Henry Morgenthau, Jr. planned a national defense bond program in the fall of 1940. The intent was to unite the attractiveness of the baby bonds that had been implemented in the interwar period with the patriotic element of the Liberty Bonds from WW I.

The Treasury began marketing the previously successful baby bonds as "defense bonds". Three new series of bond notes, Series E, F and G, would be introduced, of which Series E would be targeted at individuals as "defense bonds".
